Douglas Hofstadter is a Computer Scientist, PhD physicist, and Cognitive scientist. While his work in research of the mind and physics is impressive, he is best known for his book Gödel, Escher, Bach.
His work in bringing together ideas of logic/Mathematics with the creative side of human intelligence has formed quite a complex and interesting theory of intelligence, for which I have found quite interesting in reading his book.
