sharp and patch electrodes… etc

Sharp

Patch

Patch-Clamp electrodes are used for measuring the electrical properties of excitable cells, such as neurons and muscle cells. They are used to study ion channels, synaptic transmission, and other cellular processes.

Patch Electrodes differ from sharp electrodes in that they are designed to form a high-resistance seal with the cell membrane, allowing for the measurement of ionic currents through individual ion channels. This is achieved by using a glass pipette with a very fine tip, which is brought into contact with the cell membrane. The pipette is then suctioned to create a tight seal, allowing for the measurement of currents with high temporal and spatial resolution.
