• Directional brain orientation
    • anterior/posterior, rostral/caudal = front/back ( or , in the brain stem and spinal cord, near brain/way from brain)
    • Superior/inferior, dorsal/ventral = top/btoom ( or, in spinal cord, towards the back/belly)
    • Lateral/medial = outside/inside
    • proximal/distal = closer/farther

  • note: pay attention to left and right when looking at brain images:
    • “radiological” or clinical” orientation: left side of image = right side of brain. based on the radiologist/clinician’s view when facing the patient
    • “anatomic” or “neurological” orientation: left side of image = left side of brain
