I have been thinking about how I can amplify my learning, especially in cases where I dont really feel like learning. I have already taken quite a bit of action to “train” my youtube feed to be productive, and this has actually worked quite well.
But the way we know we absorb knowledge is by writing about it. I have been paying a lot of attention to Artem Kirsanov’s knowledge storage method, and I think I have a rough process for how I can flag videos I like and want to understand better, and how I can write about them.
Very important, however, is that I dont just write a very in depth transcript note like I do for the neuroscience notes. I am not here to nitpick every detail. This is more to write about my thoughts on the video, and not the exact details within it.
For Any given Video
- Obsidian Web Clipper
This is the tool I just installed for capturing the content of web pages. This does not do the perfect job of capturing the full “gist” of a youtube video, but it will do just fine. It will be clipped, and go in the clippings’ folder, and include a “todo” tag for me to work on it.
- Gestation
These notes will remain in this folder for some time, and every time I find myself with some free time I will turn to the todo tags, and clean up the web clipping content with my own personal thoughts. Like I said, this will mostly be the things that I thought and felt about the video, but I will also go over the content roughly. I will return to this every now and then, and because of the clippings the notes will have all the right metadata and structure that they need. They will also get the “youtube” tag.
- Maturity
When they are finally good enough for the time being, I will move them to the thoughts folder and make them a seed note. These are still like other seed notes, and can be returned to and expanded on, with some new ideas even linking to this one.
